etching needle on copper photoetching plate,
The artist looks through a magnifier to scrape lines through the
etching ground and expose the copper of the etching plate. When the
plate is set in the acid, the open areas corrode leaving indentions to
hold printing ink. The artist's compositional drawings are viewed in
mirrors in order to negate the natural reversal
that occurs in the printing process. James Stroud, printer and
publisher can be seen in the background. Photograph by Janine Wong.
